Westwood Heights Schools now have new multi-sensory rooms are areas in the classrooms. The sensory areas were established this year to help students calm and refocus during the school day. These rooms contain various items like a swing, a sensory board, unique chairs, dim lighting, bean bags, carpeted areas, fidget spinners, and segregated classroom areas so students can work alone.
" This helps them regulate their behavior." Says Westwood Heights Schools Director of Special Education Kela Geisert. "Students with calm behavior perform better and can focus better in the classroom. This will lead to academic gains."
We are proud to see these areas in every building of the district. Way to go, team!
